University Row Best Dressed Contest
As previous attendees well know, wearing frayed shorts, a worn t-shirt or your favorite pair of denims will not get you too far at Gold Cup . . .
On May 5, 2012, true Gold Cup connoisseurs will once again take the opportunity to dress to impress and bring out their finest spring togs. Seersucker suits, madras sport coats and crisp linen dresses accessorizes with charming hats, clutches and gloves are all found - and encouraged - at University Row, the place to be for Gold Cup where high fashion meets hip D.C. urbanites at this annual inauguration of the outdoor social season for the DC-area's alumni chapters.
Gold Cup, a cherished Virginia tradition in its 87th year, brings together horse-racing, fine Southern beverages and the unmistakable plumage of the social mating crowd. How better to catch the eye of a woman than with your sporty Brooks Brothers yellow trousers and ascot . . . or to bring in the beaux with a sweet polka dot sundress or sassy wide brim hat? He'll surely be delighted to get close for a glimpse of those baby blues!

For those not content on gathering just one or two admirers, set your sights high because you may be selected to participate in the coveted Best Dressed Contest!
Several judges will be monitoring the crowd throughout the morning and passing out unique stamped golden tickets to indicate the category for which the dandy or quaintrelle has been nominated: Best Dressed, Best Chapeau (hat), and Best School Colors. At 2 p.m., University Row will hold the Step and Repeat for the finalists nominated in each category. Be sure to bring your friends to this finale, since crowd input (clapping and whistling is encouraged) is a top factor in selecting the winners!
